Stop to unproductive complaining. Welcome to negative feedback.
I’m used to repeating to my team I’ll be never tolerating unproductive complaining at work. On the other hand, I’ll always welcome negative feedback. I see so much difference between each of them.
Complaining is unproductive.
We believe complaining helps us to clear out our mind from stressful thoughts. What I learned across the years is that complaining is one of the most unproductive activity ever. Not only we lose energy on hating all we don’t like, but we don’t bring any positive change into the current situation.
Complaining holds us back where we should move ahead. Complaining doesn’t move us further where we would like to be. Complaining makes us hate what we do even more than we really did before.
Negative feedback is constructive.
What I appreciate is negative feedback which is constructive. Which gives a better understanding. Which brings the change. Negative feedback means we need to face the problem and come up with a solution. It means we don’t stop at seeing what is wrong, but we see what could be done better. It means looking for the opportunity to change.
Complaining is nothing but an excuse. It’easier to criticize all around instead of proposing better ways to achieve the goals.
What is a true masterpiece is complaining about things we have no influence at. My favorite one is complaining about the weather. Just for the sake of finding a reason to complain about something.
The most common complaints I hear is complaining about:
- Lack of sleep
- Too much work
- Bad boss
We complain about things we can easily change. It’s just a matter of priorities and firm decisions. We can definitely change the attitude. We can show other people it’s possible to live differently. If they want to follow, that’s great. If they don’t, too bad for them.
Life is a series of choices. I want to take the right one.
